Ruth W. Shughart, 93, of Carlisle,
died Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Chapel Pointe Health Center, Carlisle. She was born March 30, 1921,
in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Harvey and Mildred (Sollenberger) Zimmerman, and was the widow of Creedin R. “Jake”
Shughart, who died April 2, 2010. Ruth worked for the former Carlisle Shoe Co. for 28 years and retired from the former G. S. Electric Co. after 11 years
of service. She formerly attended church services at First United Methodist Church and the Salvation Army,
both of Carlisle. Ruth enjoyed bowling, needle work, cross stitch, crocheting and making ceramics.
She is survived by one son,
Leonard “Len” (wife, Rose) Welch of Pen Argyl, two granddaughters; Leslie Rhoades and Stephanie Ollestad, one
step-grandson, Joshua Hudock, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Ruth was predeceased
by two brothers; Leroy and Robert Zimmerman and two sisters; Marlene Wardecker and Jean King. A
viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers
Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Walt Frankenberry officiating. Interment will be
in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
