

Robert Lee Balsbaugh, 88, of Carlisle, died Monday, January 19, 2015, at
his home. He was born August 29, 1926, in New Cumberland, a son of the late Alvie E. and Ruth (Parthemore)
Balsbaugh. Bob was a 1944 graduate of Duncannon High School and
later served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good
Conduct Medal and was named Airman of the Month. Bob retired from the Mechanicsburg Navy Depot, where he
was an Equipment Specialist Supervisor. He was a member of Middlesex United Methodist Church, Carlisle.
Bob was also a member of the Enola Sportsman Club, Carlisle American Legion, Carlisle Fish & Game, National Rifle
Assoc. and St. John’s Masonic Lodge, Carlisle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling
with his wife in their motorhome. He is survived by his loving and
devoted wife of 68 years, Verna H. (Isenberg) Balsbaugh, one son, Barry E. (and his wife, Tamera) Balsbaugh of Duncannon,
one daughter, Roberta L. Selan of Etters, one brother, A. E. “Bill” Balsbaugh, Jr. of Duncannon, one sister, Betty
Rittner of Harrisburg, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Bob was
predeceased by one brother, James, one sister, Hilda Fry and two grandchildren; Ethan C. Balsbaugh and Amy L. Selan. A viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015, followed
by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Jan F. Hughes
officiating. Interment with military honor by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley
Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. Memorial donations may be made to Middlesex United Methodist Church, 118 N.
Middlesex Rd., Carlisle, PA 17013.
