Clair V. Hefflefinger, 85, of Plainfield, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center, with his family by his side.  He was born January 29, 1929 in Hays Grove, a son of the late John and Loie (Ott) Hefflefinger.

Clair worked for 23 years at Columbia Minerva Yarn and retired as a custodian with Carlisle Area School District after 28 years of service.  He was a Korean War army veteran.  His favorite hobby was gardening but the most important thing in his life was his family.  His daughter and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

On March 29, 1953, in Carlisle, he wed the former Barbara A. Weaver, who survives along with a daughter, Malia A. (James) Saphore of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Colia A. Saphore, Erin J. Saphore and Jeremy M. Saphore; one great-grandson, Logan Saphore; two sisters, Miriam Barton of Chambersburg and Velva (Robert) Weibley of Carlisle; two brothers, Ebert L. (Blanche) Hefflefinger of Newville and Wayne (Mary) Hefflefinger of Carlisle; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hefflefinger of Carlisle and Chloe Hefflefinger of Newville; and 20 nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Edwin, Lester and Wilmer Hefflefinger and one sister, Evelyn Stuart.

A viewing will be held from 12 noon until services at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Tony Tarote officiating.  Interment will follow in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.

So sorry to hear of Clair's passing I worked with Clair when I was teaching at Stevens. We would often sit in the "boiler room" and chat. Always a joy. He gave me many a ride from Stevens up to the IHS to meet my wife after her work day. I always called him the "Mayor of Plainfield" and it caught on with the kids. He was a joy to know...positive, happy, and going about his day the way we all should have. So sorry.
