Veronica Shevock, 100, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle.  She was born on Saturday, July 19, 1913 in Luzerne, a daughter of the late George and Anna (Kulikoski) Kaporches.  She was the widow of the late Frank A. Shevock, Sr., who died April 1, 1981.

Veronica was a 1931 graduate of Luzerne High School.  Veronica loved nature. If she wasn't searching for a bargain in her neighborhood grocery or dollar store, she was out hiking "down country" as she called it, where she had a pond full of catfish that knew her voice.  She loved to pick blueberries and go mushrooming. She enjoyed cooking for her family. We'll remember the kolaches, snowballs and chocolate chip cookies she made us for Christmas. Her gardens were full of climbing roses, sweet peas, dahlias and towering sunflowers. She grew immense tomatoes from seeds she saved every year. She loved her animals, too: her dog JoJo, all the stray cats, her squirrel, named Baby.  She will be missed.  Veronica was of the Catholic faith all of her life.

Veronica is survived by her son, Frank A. Shevock, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Derwood, MD, her son-in-law, Dr. John Forgach of Evanston, WY, two grandchildren; Holly Slusser, wife of Col. Robert Slusser, and John J. Forgach, III and his wife Sandra Forgach, and two great-granddaughters; Kathryn Slusser and Penelope Forgach.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Louise Forgach, seven sisters; Margaret Walkonis, Mary Kulpon, Anna Mizzer, Irene Evanich, Joan Aggie Podskoch, Albina Watson and Isabelle Symczyk and one brother, Joseph Kaporches.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Henry Chapel at Chapel Pointe, 770 S. Hanover Str., Carlisle.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Plymouth.  Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.  Memorial contributions may be made to www.petswithdisabilities.org or to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201 in Veronica Shevock's name.
