
Arlene “Toots” (Ginter)
Miller, 86, of Carlisle, died Monday, December 2, 2013, at Thornwald Home, Carlisle. She was born July
4, 1927, in McCrea (Cumberland County), the fifth child of eight to George A. and Ruth (Fry) Ginter. Arlene
was the widow of Marlin E. Miller, whom she married in June 1951. She
was a 1944 graduate of Newville High School and attended one year at Findlay College in Findlay, Ohio. Arlene
taught school for seven years at the State Road School, a one room school house near Newville. She then
worked for North Middleton Township tax collector’s office and as a tax assessor. Arlene also worked
as a library aide at the Bellaire Elementary School, Carlisle, and was a faithful member of the Wesleyan Church of the Cross,
Carlisle. Arlene’s survivors include her children;
Marjorie Mowery and husband Don, Faye Knouse and husband William, Michael Miller and wife Lori, all of Carlisle, and David
Miller and wife Judith of Mt. Pleasant, SC, five grandchildren; Lisa Clark and husband Michael, Dr. Andrew Mowery and wife,
Rachel, Dr. Laura Knouse and husband Steve Barkley, Mary Hellman and husband Kyle and Merilee Miller, six great-grandchildren;
Cole and Claire Mowery, Grace and Sarah Clark and Liam and Craig Barkley, three brothers; George Ginter, Paul Ginter and wife
Jose, Jay Ginter and wife Louise, three sisters; Dorothy Hoch, Leta Fickes and Neva Barrick, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister, Janet Oiler. Funeral
services to celebrate Arlene’s life will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral
Home, 630 S. Hanover Str., Carlisle, with Rev. Daniel R. Mikesell officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland
Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wesleyan Church of the Cross, 430 “B” Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
