Kenneth W. Long, 85, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in the Chapel Pointe Health Center, Carlisle.  He was born May 18, 1928, in Plainfield, a son of the late William A. and Edna M. (Miller) Long, and was married to the late Geneva Catherine (Wolf) Long, who died April 29, 2009.

He was a 1946 graduate of Carlisle High School and served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.  Ken retired after many years of service with the Navy Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg.  He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses-Carlisle Congregation.  Ken participated in the bowling league for Navy Depot, played guitar and sang with the Penn Valley Playboy Band, played baseball for the Wharf Rats and enjoyed hunting and playing a good game of pinochle.

He is survived by one son, Ronald A. (Brenda) Long of Carlisle, two daughters; Debra A. (John) Eppley of Mechanicsburg and Sandra L. Helman of Shippensburg, five grandchildren; Jamie (Joseph) Shevlin, Justin (Jennifer) Long, Andrew Eppley, Eric Helman and Melissa Helman, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Ken was predeceased by one brother, Robert H. Long and two sisters; Maxine M. Wetzel and Ruth J. Swartz.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Ed Dorsey officiating.  Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  A viewing will be on Monday from 1 p.m. until time of services.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
