

MSgt (Ret) John LaRue Spraglin, Jr.,
USAF, 79, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at his home with loving family by his side. He
was born on January 1, 1934, in Carlisle, a son of the late John LaRue Spraglin, Sr. and Isabelle B. (Byers) Spraglin. John graduated from Carlisle High School in 1952.
He was a 22 year veteran of the United States Air Force, a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran, and retired in 1974
as a Master Sergeant. After retirement, John continued his service at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot
and retired after 20 years of service. John attended Harrisburg Area Community College. He
received accreditation from the Aircraft & Jet Engine Technical Schools and the Non-Commission Officer Academy.
John was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, American Legion Post 826, Carlisle, and a former board of director
member of the Carlisle Fish & Game Assoc. John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing
and trap and skeet shooting. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving
and devoted wife of 56 years, Angela C. (Orndorff) Spraglin, his children; Charissa (Douglas) Williams and Brenda Spraglin
(Dennis) Wilson, both of Harrisburg, John (Brigitte) Spraglin, III of Germany and Michelle (Donald) Nelson of Kansas, one
brother, Kenneth “Teddy” (Sue) Spraglin of Carlisle, two sisters; Marian Elby of Carlisle and Lois “Squirt”
Spraglin of Harrisburg, seven grandchildren; Renee and Ryan Williams, Shannel and Shawn Garnes, Aiden Spraglin and Jordan
and Breanna Nelson, one great-granddaughter, Symphony Collier and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and William Snyder of
Harrisburg, to whom John was like a father. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard G. Spraglin. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630
S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Daniel B. Keys officiating. Burial with military honors will be at
Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at 1 p.m. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until
time of services. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to his church, 154 Lincoln
Str., Carlisle, PA 17013.

John was one of the first people I met when I came to Carlisle in 1984. I always
enjoyed seeing him at Carlisle Fish & Game and he was a real asset for the club--always pleasant and always a gentleman.
He will be missed.
