Helen P. Stover, 89, of Carlisle, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Cumberland Crossing Retirement Community, Carlisle.  She was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Mary (Keadle) Gipe, and was the widow of Robert A. “Smokey” Stover, who died Feb. 21, 1997.

Helen graduated in 1942 from Carlisle High School and served on the “Class of 42” Committee.  Helen formerly attended the former First United Methodist Church in Carlisle.  She was a loving homemaker, a former Girl Scout Leader and former Shamrock Club and American Business Women’s Association member.

She is survived by one daughter, Louise S. Nicholson of Carlisle, two sons; Larry R. (and wife, Patty) Stover of Newville and Les C. (and wife, Ronna Lee) Stover of Plainfield, five grandchildren; Kami Greenawalt, Matthew, Seth and Austin Stover and Amy Magnuson, twin great-granddaughters; Layna and Kady Magnuson and several nieces and nephews.  Helen was predeceased by brother, Elmer Pittman and sister, Betty Lee Gipe.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Vernon Gauthier officiating.  Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
