Dorothea Louise Calkins, age 87, of Carlisle, died peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at Church of God Home, Carlisle with loving family by her side.  She was born March 18, 1926, in Carlisle, the daughter of the late Harvey Albert and Claire Elizabeth (Brubaker) Kemper, and was the widow of Hiram Burchard Calkins, Jr., who died Feb. 9, 1996.

Dorothea was a 1944 graduate of Carlisle High School.  She was a loving homemaker and was a member of the former Grace United Methodist Church, Carlisle.

She is survived by one son, Hiram B. Calkins, III (and wife, Ann) of Mechanicsburg, two daughters; Debra A. (and husband, Richard) Bressler of Carlisle and Linda C. (and husband, Robert) Powers of Boiling Springs, three grandchildren; Patrick Calkins, Amelia Bressler and Olivia Powers.

A private graveside service was held in the Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle, with Rev. James E. VanZandt officiating.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the Church of God Home, Carlisle, with Chaplain Bradley Moore officiating.  Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of God Home or to a charity of your choice.
