Joseph J. Widra, Jr, entered into eternal peace on July 30, 2013.  His final days were spent surrounded by family members who loved him dearly and friends that Joe had touched in some small way throughout his very memorable life. Born on February 10, 1933, Joseph was the son of Helen Louise Daugherty-Widra-Sweeney-DiJulio and Joseph James Widra Sr. of Mt. Carmel, PA. He was the oldest of four children: William Michael Sweeney of Bluffton, SC, Thomas Daugherty of Hereford, TX.  Patrick Francis Sweeney and Mary Elizabeth DiJulio preceded him in death. Joe was married for 45 years to the love of his life, Doris Marie Robinson-Feuchtenberger-Widra. Together, they raised a daughter, Kathy Lee Feuchtenberger of Waldorf, MD, and two sons, Edwin Jay (and wife, Charlene) and William Lee Feuchtenberger, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

During Joe's early years, he endured abuse and neglect. At times, he was locked out of the family home and forced to sleep in the firehouse at Mt. Holly Springs or at the Carlisle YMCA.  At one point, his mother took out a classified ad in the paper to find him a home. When no one responded, she sent him to an orphanage in Nebraska.  Alone and homesick, Joe hitchhiked home and was found sleeping on the front porch.  At 14, Joe lied about his age and joined the Navy.  Shortly before his 18th birthday, the Navy discovered his true age and honorably discharged him. This experience in the Navy, shaped his life and gave him direction in the business world in which he excelled.

During his professional career, he was the Vice President of Transportation at Central Trucking, Director of Regional Sales at Carlisle Syntec, Training Instructor at Sheaffer Trucking, and a licensed realtor. He held his private pilot's license until he turned 70, loved traveling especially through the United Kingdom, and was a civil war enthusiast. Joe was an avid reader and loved woodworking. Most of all, Joe loved his wife and family.

Viewing and funeral services were held on Friday, August 2, 2013, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, with Rev. Tim Wheeler officiating.  Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard was held in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.
