Jarl
E. Englund, 86, of Carlisle, died Friday, May 3, 2013, in Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
He was born on Wednesday, June 9, 1926, in Jamaica, NY, a son of the late John Eli Englund and Agnes K. (Samuelsson)
Englund, and was married to the late R. Elvira (Wise) Englund, who died March 8, 2001.
Jarl was a 1944 graduate of the William Cullen Bryant
High School, Long Island, NY and earned an associate degree from St. John’s University in Brooklyn, NY.
Jarl served in the US Army and was a veteran of WWII. He formerly worked in sales in New York City
and retired from the PA Turnpike, where he was a toll collector. Jarl was a member of First Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Carlisle, a Past President and Zone Chairman of the Carlisle Lions Club, PA Association of Retired State
Employees, North Middleton Senior Citizens Club, PA Sheriff’s Association, American Legion Post 101, Carlisle, AARP,
the Carlindian Chorus, the Harrisburg Consistory and was a Past Master and 32nd Degree Mason with the Bredablick
Masonic Lodge No. 880, New York City. Jarl was a former member of the Augustana Lutheran Church of Astoria,
NY, which he helped to build.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna E. Englund of Carlisle and one Goddaughter, Linda Fiorino
of Long Island. Jarl also has extended family members in Sweden and the Aland Islands, Finland.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral
Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Charles A. Brophy officiating. A viewing will be on Wednesday
from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County
Honor Guard will be in Ashland Cemetery, Carlisle. Immediately following the burial, a time of fellowship
will be held in the Martin Luther Room at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
