
John J. Hoover, 78, of Carlisle, passed
away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at his home with loving family by his side. He was born on Tuesday, November 20, 1934,
in Cumberland County, a son of the late Earl and Ethel (Shughart) Hoover. John retired after 23 years of service with AMP, Inc, and had also worked 19
years with the former Craine’s Sunoco Automobile Station, Carlisle. He was a member of Big Spring United Lutheran Church,
Newville, Carlisle Eagles Aerie 1299 and the Turnpike Ramblers Motorcycle Club. John was an avid car buff and especially enjoyed
Cadillacs. He is survived by his
loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Carolyn J. (Hockenberry) Hoover, two brothers; Merle Hoover and Ronald Hoover, both of
Carlisle, two grandsons; Rhett and Jon Souders, three great-granddaughters, two step-sons; Edward Shearer of Carlisle and
Robert (and his wife, Carole) Shearer of York, two step-grandchildren; twins, Natalie and Nicholas Shearer, with whom John
very much enjoyed spending time and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Souders, who
died in 1996, three brothers; Joseph, his twin and Wayne and Lee Hoover and one sister, Doris Woodrow. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Big
Spring United Lutheran Church, 101 Crossroad School Rd., Newville, with Pastor Jean Kuebler officiating. A viewing will be
held at the church on Monday from 1 - 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge
of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Dear Carolyn and Family: We were so sad to hear that John passed away. We know he has not been
going real well health wise, but were surprised to hear of his passing. You and your family are in our prayers in this time
