William J. Meredith, 84, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at LifeCare Hospitals of Mechanicsburg. He was born on Monday, February 18, 1929, in Carlisle, a son of the late Paul Hoover Meredith and Blanche Olive (Worley) Meredith.

Bill was a 1947 graduate of Boiling Springs High. He served in the US Navy and was a Korean War veteran. Bill retired after many years of service with the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, where he worked as a supervisor in the purchasing department. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carlisle, AARP Chapter 4377, NARFE Chapter 373, American Legion Post 674 and the VFW Post 7343, both of Mt. Holly Springs. Bill enjoyed working in his garden, taking care of his home and loved to hunt and fish.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Constance "Connie" (Grove) Meredith of South Mountain, two sons; William R. (and his wife, Norma) Meredith of Gardners and Stephen D. Meredith of Mechanicsburg, three grandchildren; Ryan, Jennifer and Michael Meredith and two great-grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Harold Meredith.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Jim VanZandt officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to NAMI PA of Cumberland and Perry Counties, P.O. Box 527, Carlisle, PA 17013.

 I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Bill for many years at the Navy Depot. He was a very respected and a knowledgeable person. Always had a smile on his face.
