Ettautelia C. "Etta" Varner,
100, of Carlisle, died on Friday, February 15, 2013, in the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. She was
born on Wednesday, January 1, 1913, in Newville, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Ruth (Deihl) Unger and was the widow
of Robert George Varner, who died March 12, 1957. Etta retired from the former Carlisle Tire & Rubber Co. after 26 years of service. She
was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. Etta enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She is survived by one son, Clifford H. (and his wife, Sarah Jane) Varner of
Mt. Holly Springs, two daughters; Joanne M. E. (and her husband, Henry) Barrick of Newville and Shyrl L. (and her husband,
Charles) Carothers of Boiling Springs, one brother, Paul Unger of Carlisle, three sisters; Thelma Gatten of Carlisle, Isabel
Hammaker of Lemoyne and Ethel Harris of Huntingdon, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren and
several niece and nephews. Etta was predeceased by brothers; Oscar and Leroy Unger and sisters; Hazel Watson and Phyllis Avis. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. in
the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Timothy W. Sadler officiating. A viewing will be
held on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be privately held in Prospect Hill
Cemetery, Newville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Louther St., Carlisle,
PA 17013.
