Doris J. Smyser, 69, of Carlisle, died
on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Swaim Health Center, Green Ridge Village, Newville. She was born on Thursday, July 29, 1943,
in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Mervin I. and Bessie (Russell) Keck. Doris was a 1961 graduate of Big Spring High School, Newville. She was a loving
homemaker and had also worked at J. C. Penney, Church of God Home and Whichcraft Craft Store, all of Carlisle. Doris also
formerly operated a cleaning service in the Carlisle area. She attended God’s Missionary Church, Bloserville and was
a member of the Molly Pitcher Stitchers. She enjoyed making crafts, needlework and quilting. She is survived by four sons; Robert Smyser, Jr. and Phillip Smyser, both of
Newville, Duane Smyser of Mt. Holly Springs and Daniel L. Smyser of Carlisle, two daughters; Doris Porter and Melanie Dyarman,
both of Carlisle, one brother, Richard Keck of Carlisle, four sisters; Eleanor Karper of Carlisle, Peggy Bloser of Newville,
Barbara Sengbusch of Lakeland, FL and Helen Speed of Polk City, FL, 9 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces
and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by one brother, Mervin Keck, Jr. and one sister, Katharine Norrell. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the
Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Ken Gordon officiating. A visitation will be on Friday
from 1 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society
