
Clarence Edward Griffie, 73, of Newville,
passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, at M. S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born on Wednesday, February 8, 1939, in Carlisle,
a son of the late Parker Leroy Griffie and Bertie (Oiler) Griffie. Ed was a 1957 graduate of Big Spring High School, Newville, where he was on the
varsity football and basketball teams. He was a drywall finisher and had worked for several area contractors. Ed enjoyed gardening
and loved growing cantalopes and watermelons. In 1951, Ed was a pitcher for the PA State runner-up Little League team, the
Newville Yankees at Williamsport. Ed was an avid New York Yankees fan. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Gloria L. (Stevens) Griffie, two
brothers; Ray E. and James O. Griffie, both of Newville, three sisters; Dorothy Kressler of Carlisle, Barbara Sims of Altamonte
Springs, FL and Ida Freed of Seligman, AZ, a sister-in-law, Ruth Griffie of Carlisle, many nieces and nephews and his Shih
Tzu canine companion, Samme. Ed was preceded in death by two brothers; Richard and Glenn Griffie. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in
the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Timothy Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in
Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until time services at the funeral
home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
