
Berneice M. Gerhardt, 94, of Carlisle,
passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at home with her family by her side. She was born on Friday, November 9, 1917, in
Churchtown, a daughter of the late Roy M. Westhafer and Beulah M. (Hosler) Rettinger. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Frederick N. Gerhardt, who died Dec. 15, 1972 and her step-father, Daniel Rettinger.
Berneice was a 1936 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School
and enjoyed being a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle, a former member of the
Carlisle Civic Club and Garden Club and a charter member of the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by two daughters; Cheryl D. Calaman and Diane M. Harper, both
of Carlisle, four grandchildren; Michael Wogan of New Bloomfield, Steve Harper and wife, Lisa of Carlisle, Dawn Cheugh and
partner, Dave Stazel of Montgomery, AL and William Harper and wife, Kathy of King George, VA,, one step-grandson, William
L. Harper and wife, Stephanie of Erie, seven great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and James Keller of New
Bloomfield, who was like a grandson for all of his help, love and friendship over the years. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Ewing
Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Carol Bowman and Rev. Robert Seibold officiating. Burial will
be private in Mt. Zion Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.

My sincere condolence to the family of Berneice. She will be dearly missed. The
first time I meet Berneice was at their cabin. My best friend Diane took me along with her to see her mom. When we got to
the cabin, Berneice was frying banannas I had never heard of this before,she gave me a tast, I was sold.They were so delicious.
Oh sweet memories. A lovley lady will be dearly missed. May god bless you and your family during this time and
always .
