
Bessie E. Wilkinson, 96, of Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday,
April 25, 2012, at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. She was born on March 14, 1916,
in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Thomas D. and Lena A. (Stuart) Stripling, and the widow of Clarence W. Wilkinson, who
died Jan. 21, 1966.
Bessie worked in several Carlisle area businesses and spent many
years with the former Dutch Cupboard Restaurant in downtown Carlisle. Bessie continued being active by
babysitting at her home well into her 80’s. She was a faithful and active member of Shiloh Missionary
Baptist Church in Carlisle for many years.
She is survived by three
sons; Thomas Stackfield, John Wilkinson and James Wilkinson, all of Carlisle, three daughters; Rachel Godbolt, Kathleen Hadley
and Margaret Fair, all of Carlisle and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and many
extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Shiloh
Missionary Baptist Church, on the corner of Lincoln and N. West Streets, Carlisle. Rev. Daniel Keys will officiate
Viewing will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. A repass will
immediately follow in the church social hall. Burial will be private. Ewing Brothers
Funeral Home, Carlisle, is in charge of arrangements.
