William M. Croft, 86, of Carlisle, passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2012, in Thornwald Home, Carlisle. He was born on Sunday, December 13, 1925, in Carlisle, a son of the late Arthur A. and Selma (McPherran) Croft.

Bill was a graduate of Carlisle High School with the Class of 1943 and served in the US Army Air Force as an Aerial Gunner during WWII. He was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the European African Middle Eastern Medal with three Bronze Stars and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bill retired from the Naval Supply Depot in Mechanicsburg after more than 35 years of service, where he was a supervisor in the Electrical Parts Department. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and meeting his friends at the Farmers Market Restaurant, Carlisle

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Joanne C. (Marshman) Croft, one son, William A. Croft of Carlisle, two daughters; Joyce Randall (and husband, Brian) of Williamsburg, VA and Diane Wesche (and her husband, Kenneth) of Beltsville, MD, grandchildren; James Callahan, Janelle Callahan, William A. Croft, Jr. and Nicole Wesche. He was preceded in death by two brothers; his twin, Robert and Irvin Croft.

Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. High St., Carlisle, with Rev. Charles A. Brophy officiating. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 6 - 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to his church, 21 S. Bedford St., Carlisle, PA 17013.

 This is Ronald Madison. I am the brother of Dick and Vick Madison. I am sorry to hear of Bills passing. He was a good man, and a very good friend. We hunted and fished together. I have many fond memories I will remember for the rest of my life .God bless.
