Mervin J. "Buster" Hodge, Sr., 80, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011, at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle. He was born Monday, January 19, 1931, in Carlisle, a son of the late Elmer and Mary (Spradley) Hodge.

Buster served in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge and the Germany Occupational Medal. He worked as legislative clerk with the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and retired in 2005 after 27 years of service. Buster was a member of Haines-Stackfield American Legion Post 826, Carlisle.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lois J. (Hill) Hodge, three sons; Vaughn G., Robert G. and Mervin J., Jr. (and his wife, Mary) Hodge, two daughters; Sharyn Seffu and Sonya Hodge Clemons, two brothers; Paul R. and George R. Hodge, one sister, Elizabeth Goens, 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Buster was preceded in death by four brothers; Elmer, Shirley, Payton and Jake Hodge and three sisters; Mary Jane Lee, Eleanor Easter and Roberta Pacheco.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2011, in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Pastor Duane Coleman officiating. Viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.  Memorial contributions may be made to Bibleway Hibner Memorial Church of God in Christ, 223 Walnut St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
